In Spring the Wild Swamp Rose was blooming in several areas down by the creek.  I decided to wrap a branch of each bush area with a red strip of cloth.  By Fall the area is full and over grown.  Flagging made it easy for me to find the bush.  The bushes were all loaded with tiny rose hips.  I thought I was going to have a HUGE harvest.  I had read to harvest rose hips AFTER the first freeze.  No freeze is predicted this week.  I decided to check on the rose hips.  Glad I did because half of them were eaten by the birds. Which means they are ripe. I decided not to wait for the freeze.  The birds will have all of them eaten by that time.  I harvested about 2 cups of these TINY rose hips. I am drying them on a screen in the basement. After about 2 weeks they should be completely dried.  I will store them in a glass jar in the dark area of my basement.

I still have a bottle of Rose Hip Seed Oil that I infused last year. So this years harvest will be for tea.  Two teaspoons of DRIED rose hips per 8 oz. of boiling water. I happen to like a strong brewed tea so I leave it steep for at least 1/2hr.
