Jalopeno and Italian Roaster took about 5 days to germinate. On 2-10 I planted the germinated seed and they pushed through the seed starting mix on 2-12. I used a clear tote with a heat mat. During sunny days they are in my south windows with direct sun. No sun, they are on my kitchen counters under the counter lights.
More pepper seeds will be started in a month. I just wanted a couple started early so I might have a harvest by late June. I don't want to rush planting them in the gardens too early, since they dislike cold soil. Wish me luck.

Congrats on your success with your paper towel germination; it works great for you. I haven't progressed to using that method. But of the 36 cells of pepper seeds I planted Feb 2 only one has not sprouted yet. But I haven't given up hope for that one. I chose to plant 36 peppers because the tray came with 36 cells. I feel peppers are less maintenance than tomato plants which I plan to start late in March. I've been throwing around the idea of growing plants to sell in May to make some extra $$ to cover the cost of my gardening. But then I remember I'm very excited in March, followed by overwhelmed by the work to keep them healthy 6 -10 weeks later. If I had a greenhouse it would make much more sense but it would involve a lot of inside and outside movements that you do also.
I have a list of outdoor spring tasks in my garden and I would really like to just enjoy my gardens and not feel overwhelmed. So hopefully I won't start too many tomato plants.
